Dr. Sandra Belmont began private practice with the commitment of bringing a strong academic background and an individual approach to her patients. She takes a personal interest in her patients and an active role in restoring and protecting vision.
Dr. Belmont has been practicing in New York since she completed her fellowship with Dr. Richard Troutman in 1984. She has followed Dr. Troutman's example of being active in academic lecturing and teaches a course sanctioned by the American Academy of Ophthalmology on corneal surgery. She is proficient in the surgical techniques pioneered by Dr. Troutman, making adjustments to suit her patients' needs. This includes the corneal wedge resection and relaxing incisions.
In 1990, Dr. Belmont was among the first few investigators around the country to study the Excimer Laser for the FDA. This study eventually led to FDA approval of laser vision correction for the treatment of near-sightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.
Dr. Sandra Belmont is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Her training includes an ophthalmology residency and Corneal Surgery Fellowship. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Belmont is also affiliated with numerous state and national organizations.
